Mrs. Jamie T. Castro, a faculty member of NEUST - San Isidro Campus (NEUST- SIC), served as the Filipino presenter at the Persidangan Angtarabangsa Psikologi Gunaan Dan Pedagogi 2025 (International Conference on Applied Psychology and Pedagogy - ICAPP) 2025, held on June 16 -17 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
Organized by the Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN), the two-day regional gathering brought together educators and mental health professionals across Southeast Asia to share research and practices that advance psychological and pedagogical development in the region.
Mrs. Castro presented her research titled “Echoes of Youth: Exploring the Nature and Impact of Regret in Adolescence,” which delves into the emotional complexities of adolescent regret, classifying it into four types: foundation, boldness, moral, and connection, as well as identifying which among these carries the strongest prevalence and psychological weight among youth.
“It really all started with Cup of Joe’s ‘Multo’ —a song that brings back a lot of emotions and memories. Narealize ko na nakakarelate ang lahat, even the young ones. So that music and that observation turned into a full-blown research,” she shared in an interview.
As per the Pinay presenter, her goal in conducting this research is to shed light on the reality of the experiences of adolescents when it comes to regret.
With the findings, the research calls for proactive programs and interventions that help adolescents process regret in healthy, constructive ways, fostering resilience for future challenges.
Her participation marked a significant moment for the NEUST-SIC community, as she stood as the only Filipino presenter in an international field of educators and researchers.
